February in Chianti: It’s Carnival time!

Finally Carnival time arrives and of course Chianti is not an exception and will do its part to make this a joyful, fun time for adults and children but also an opportunity to discover or rediscover beautiful places, traditions, flavors and colors of this wonderful area, full of natural beauty, of history and culture, art and wine, food and  friendly faces too.

 What is Carnival?
Carnival is a historical tradition linked to a period of "liberation" and abandonment of social rules that anticipates the most austere and rigid period of Lent, which obviously leads to Easter.
It has been celebrated for centuries and marks a moment of unbridled fun, joy, colors, of masks and disguises but also flavors and recipes (especially sweets) typical of this time of the  year.
Kids love it because they can dress up like the characters they love the most. The streets of small villages as well as the big cities are animated by parties, music, parade floats, dances, confetti and jokes. Every area, every city and every village organizes events of this kind, to be able to dance, laugh and spend a few carefree hours  with their children and friends.
We dance, we laugh, we eat, we joke and we play to celebrate life even in the coldest season of the year!
This is a tradition so ancient and loved in our territory that, for example, in Castiglion Fibocchi, the "Carnival of the sons of Bacchus" is celebrated sice 1100  a.d.!!
At Corte di Valle we have Greve Carnival celebration which this year will have its apex on 10 and 11 February with events, music with DJs, lots of food, games and funny make up  for your children!
But everywhere in Chianti you will have a party, as in all of Tuscany. impossible to miss is Viareggio Carnival, one of the most famous and renowned in the world with its unmissable parade of allegorical floats.
A good wine or even a good Vin Santo (a sweet wine) will encourage you to taste typical sweets of this period such as the famous Florentine "schiacciata", the "berlingozzo" (a donut-shaped cake with aniseed aroma), the “cenci or “chiacchiere”, made of fried dough sprinkled with powdered sugar, a real treat!
We are waiting for you at Corte di Valle to have fun together in the most enjoyable time of the year !!
